Tip #45: Sketch out what you want done at every phase

One of the most important elements of a smooth remodel or addition is clear communication between homeowner and contractor. One way to be certain you are talking about the same thing is to make a simple sketch of what each phase of the work will look like, especially if you are planning to do your remodeling in stages. You don't need to be an artist to draw a simple sketch. Sketching your design ideas will also help to better equip you to make design decisions. Most of us make better decisions when we can see what will change. If a design decision also requires other changes, a sketch will help you see the finished project after all of the changes are made.
