Tip #331: Make sure you see your contractor's liability insurance certification and check with the agent/insurer

One important step that will protect you from a liability suit and possible expense is to ask to see your contractor's liability insurance certification before you sign a contract. Then be sure to call the insurance company and confirm that the insurance is current. Remember: no one can protect you better than you. Don't hire a contractor whose insurance has expired or lapsed
