Tip #18: Stay in Your Home as Long as You Can

You can save a lot of money by staying in your home as long as possible. Whether you stay in a hotel or with relatives, there will be expenses related to being displaced from your home. If you are staying in a hotel, the room and meal costs will be significant. If you carefully and completely seal off the part of your house that is under construction, you can probably remain in the house while the work is done. An honest conversation with your contractor about the safety of remaining in the house will help you understand whether you need to stay somewhere else for part of the time and when you need to be out of the house. Staying elsewhere for the shortest amount of time possible can save a significant amount of cash. If you plan to do some of the work, remaining in your home will save a considerable amount of time, as well.
